Abstract

In this work, the theoretical calculations were carried out for a heat pump assisted crystallization process. The studied method includes a heating process of mother liquor in a crystallizer for direct evaporative crystallization. R-134a is used as refrigerant. The coefficient of performance (COP), exergetic efficiency (ex), and total irreversibility rate were calculated. It was also found that the highest irreversibility value was at condenser temperature of 25oC and evaporative temperature of -15oC. It was also found that the salt concentration in a slurry solution (X D ) inside a crystallizer increases as COP increases.
